Q. What is the reason a 5-day course is offered with regard to club professional certification and club management certification as opposed to a 4-6 year “apprenticeship” program or a 2-3 year college program?

A. It is no secret that most college and training associations would prefer their students attend their particular programs for as long as possible. The obvious reason of course is that more revenue is generated. Now if you combine outrageously expensive annual dues, reality soon sets in. Far too many young individuals with high aspirations unfortunately drop out of these outmoded programs after spending years of their time and money on confusing and frustrating education.

The United States Golf Managers Association has been working hard to change and restructure these monopolistic programs of the past. Similar to teaching the game, we realize that to become a club pro or club manager a solid instruction program along with continuing education through informative publications and educational DVDs can certainly provide more than adequate training in these fields. It is our philosophy that you can either spend years and years studying about management…….or you can manage!
